Almost Christmas

It is almost Christmas,

The skies are getting cold.

Stockings are filled

Sweet stories are told.

It is nearly Christmas

With decorations and lights.

Hot chocolate and mulled wine,

Calm, cosy nights.

It is close to Christmas

As we spread Christmas cheer.

We watch festive movies

Sometimes shedding a tear.

Right before Christmas

As the excitement grows.

We put out the mince pies

And pray for some snow.

Thank you for taking the time to read my little Christmas poem. Have a Merry Christmas! For another of my poems, have a read of Finally Cooler.

Reading Right Now

One of my favourite things is being snuggled up with a good book (or two) and being immersed in a brilliant narrative. As Christmas approaches, I fully intend to spend some more quality time wrapped up in a throw and absorbing great stories.

It has been a while since I shared what I am currently reading and so today I decided to drop some recommendations.

As my regular blog readers will know, I usually have a YA fiction book on the go. I am currently half way Alice Oseman’s first novel, ‘Solitaire’, which is where we first meet Tori, the sister of Charlie. She goes on to show up in the Heartstopper series as a moody, but supportive sibling. The book is well organised and flows well.

I am also nearly at the end of a book called ‘Dear Nobody‘ by Bertie Doherty. This is about two teenagers who are about to go to University when their brief affair leads to a pregnancy and the birth of their child. Well written, this book is very moving and reflective.

Plenty Of Drama

Right now, I am finishing ‘Broken Light’ by Joanne Harris. I spoke about this fantastic piece of literature in my recent Read, Watch and Listen article so feel free to check out my thoughts.

As well as this, I am making my way through a Kindle book by Mel Giedroyc about a wealthy family who suddenly lose absolutely everything. ‘The Best Things’ is proving to be a satisfying and often humorous read.

Books I Am Excited About

I still have to get round to opening the newest book by Celeste Ng. ‘Our Missing Hearts’ is next on my TBR and I absolutely cannot wait to free up some time to read it.

Thank you for reading my update. What books are you currently enjoying?

Why Are We Promoting Oil And Gas…Again?

In the King’s speech, it was this week stated that there will be more licenses available for oil and gas extraction around the UK. Whilst the King was saying these words, I bet he was disgusted with what the implications would be.

As a well known environmentalist and campaigner for sustainability, Charles must have resented promoting more oil and gas digging.

For me, it just doesn’t sit well.

I cannot get my head around the idea that we could still reach Net Zero by doing this. In my view, we should be reducing the use of fossil fuels as quickly as humanly possible.

Greener Energy

The government believes expansion of oil and gas fields will help the UK remain independent and stop our reliance on Middle Eastern and Russian fuel. This suggests they are not convinced that greener energy is achievable.

IT IS Though!

We have so much wind on these stormy islands. Our shores are surrounded by powerful waves. Hydro-electricity works well in some hilly areas and can be expanded to others.

Right now, a wave energy wall is being built across the Wash from Skegness to Hunstanton. It will help with flood protection as well as harnessing the strength of the waves.

Quick answers could include solar panels, which are currently growing up in pockets around my local area but seeing much resistance from local councils.

Let’s be honest, our island has enough potential to become totally energised by greener fuels.

Final Thoughts

In my opinion, any extra oil and gas drilling means we are going in the wrong direction. We should be taxing rich companies and using that money to immediately expand solar panel fields, wind farms and start building more hydro-electric plants which could also aid the prevention of flooding.

What are your thoughts on the back-peddling regarding fossil fuels?
