Cool TV Shows

As you all know, I am a massive TV addict and watch a lot of series all year round. I enjoy talking about them with my friends and, of course, discussing them on this little blog. My reviews are honest but I only ever bother to write about the programmes that I ended up really enjoying.

The Mandalorian

Baby Yoda really is cute.

Star Wars is a big part of my childhood and has gone on to become a series of movies that I absolutely love. So it is no surprise that I found the idea of ‘The Mandalurian’ really compelling. Set in the Star Wars galaxies and helmed by Disney, this show is easy watching.

One of the characters who grabbed everyone straight away is the baby Yoda, who looks very much like the well known Yoda who led the Jedi knights during the original George Lucas classics.

The adventures of the hooded Mandalurian are exciting and take us on journeys to familiar and unfamiliar parts of the Universe. ‘Mando’ has some regular allies and a recurring enemy who often unsettles his plans.

His job is to do bounty missions rescuing aliens or recovering treasures. Each episode is directed by a different person and the quality of directors is incredible, including Bryce Dallas Howard and Deborah Chow. Bryce is well known for Jurassic World and for being Ron Howard’s daughter.

You will find this show on Disney Plus and it is currently awaiting its third season. I totally recommend checking it out whether you are a Star Wars fan or otherwise.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

I learned a lot about Denim from Jeff.

This is more of a documentary show, which is given a lift because of being hosted by one of the nicest guys on television. Jeff has a cool and very funny way of hosting these random one-offs about everything from ice cream to gaming.

He cleverly looks at the history of each topic and it’s origins and then explores its world happily, giving us an insight into that particular subject. I really found these episodes interesting and fun. I especially learned a lot about BBQs, sneakers (or ‘trainers’, as we call them in the UK), and Denim.

I never knew very much about the history or relevance of Denim before watching this, but his quick way of enlightening the viewer really does leave you feeling more knowledgeable and fulfilled. I would totally recommend looking at the list of documentaries and checking out one that grabs your interest. They are all less than half an hour and can also be found on Disney Plus, under the National Geographic banner.

TV Shows Worth Watching Now

As it’s summer, I have had plenty of time to get hooked on new TV shows and as a blogger my instinct tells me to share. In this article I want to celebrate another couple of programmes that have gained my viewership and entertained me thoroughly this summer. Usually I enjoy watching comedies and dramas, so here are my reviews of one of each.

Schmigadoon

This little gem came from nowhere. I was ready to watch another episode of ‘Physical’ on AppleTV+ (See my previous review) when I stumbled across a trailer for a new comedy series, styled like a 1950s musical. Before long I was checking it out and totally entertained.

The cast is led by Keegan-Michael Key (The Prom) and Cecily Strong (Ghostbusters 2016). Supported by Kristin Chenoweth and Alan Cumming, the talented singers and dancers bring a charming production which is nostalgic and funny.

This comedy is all singing and all dancing.

With plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour and lots of glitz, this series doesn’t take itself too seriously. It takes off classic movies such as ‘The Sound of Music’ with affection and is a great distraction from the rigour of modern living. The couple are having marital problems and whilst camping, find a bridge that traps them in a town which seems stuck in the 1950s. The town has nods to ‘Oklahoma’ as does the theme tune. They can only return to New York if they can prove they really love someone. Maybe confirm their love for each other even.

Big Sky

Having watched half of the season of ten episodes, I am right in the midst of the drama. The thing that tempted me to view this Star/ Disney Plus show was the fact that it was scripted by the incredible David E Kelley (Big Little Lies/ husband to Michelle Pfeiffer). Interestingly Michelle’s sister appears in this gripping drama, which includes a guest appearance from Ryan Phillippe.

I don’t want to give anything away about this. It is best just to switch it on and see what you think. To start with, episode one introduced some private detectives who were squabbling over an affair. Then we met some teenagers who were driving to Colorado from Montana. Everything seemed great until it was revealed that recently lots of young women had gone missing along the route they were taking.

This series has breath-taking scenes set in beautiful Montana and covers trafficking, which is a harrowing issue and involves shipping women over the border to Canada. The script is clever and many of the characters have funny lines to say which make you smile. The state trooper is particularly quirky, witty and scary (all at once).

These two shows are both proving to be successful and entertaining. Big Sky is already on its second season and I am sure Schmigadoon will soon follow. Six episodes are definitely not enough.

I hope that you consider checking out one of these TV series. If you enjoyed this post please follow my blog and help me grow the platform.

Jungle Cruise Review

This morning I created a quick YouTube review of the new Disney movie, ‘Jungle Cruise’ which stars Emily Blunt, The Rock and Jack Whitehall.

In short, I was intrigued by this movie as it was based on a well-known Disney ride. Disney movies are always fun but lately some have lost their flavours a bit. Cruella recently impressed me and so I was hopeful with this movie too. Check out my YouTube for my thoughts on the matter.
