Why Shouldn’t Muppets Rule The World?

Imagine if the muppets won elections. Let’s just consider that idea for a moment. What if the actual muppets legitimately took control of actual countries? A government of muppets sounds too far flung an idea to be realistic. Or does it?

The Muppet Show isn’t that far fetched when considering politics.

Kermit could easily grab some votes with his fun anecdotes and rhetoric. I could imagine him taking on a senior position such as Chancellor or Home Secretary. He would share the wealth, at least. Let’s face it, he would be single minded and considerate. Not like the money grabbers we often have looking after our finances – increasing our taxes while avoiding paying them themselves.

Fozzy bear would make a great Foreign Secretary. His charm and appeal would allow him to schmooze foreign leaders and his humour would enable him to earn their favour and drive some great deals.

As for Miss Piggy, she would be amazing as Prime Minister or President. I can already envisage her instagram, posing in government buildings and shoving the Downing Street cat to one side, not enabling anyone to upstage her. And as for parties… she would have loads of fun while letting our policies go down the drain. Not much different from what is actually happening right now.

Animal would rock his way into parliament and provide crazy nights of live music at the White House. He could be a good Health Secretary with his wild abandon and laid back attitude. I can see him promoting ‘health care for everyone’ and blowing his budget quickly. At least his intentions would be worthy. Wouldn’t they?

As you can tell, there would not be much difference if our governments were replaced by the Muppets. Politics would be more entertaining while the same old mistakes were being made. At least the Muppets would be genuine leaders, not self-obsessed and detached from the real struggle of paying extortionate energy bills.

I originally wrote this on Ko-if but enjoyed it so much and now have decided to include it within my blog. I hope you enjoyed it and can suggest some other muppets who could replace world leaders and possibly do those jobs better. 6 Quick Eco Fixes

I chose a picture of Scotland as this is where COP26 took place; where urban areas and mountains are next to each other.

Now that the COP26 climate summit is over, I felt that the momentum has slowed down regarding climate change in the media. Therefore this post is a quick reminder of the simple changes you can make to help us become more sustainable and stave off global warming. These quick eco fixes can be easily integrated into your daily life and holiday routines.

1) Make an effort to walk or cycle more. Even if it is just swapping one journey a week, it will make a difference. Can you manage getting up ten minutes earlier and walking to work or school instead of getting the car out? Walking not only is good for reducing pollution, it also wakes your body up properly ready to focus on work.

2) Have a meat-free day every week. It is easy and fun to come up with or follow vegetable-centred recipes. I have recently started to have more vegetables in my main meals, choosing vegetable lasagnes and pasta dishes over my traditional chicken or bacon meals.

3) Make time for educating yourself about climate change. Check out one of the many documentaries which are informative and thought-provoking. Greta Thunberg has a few programmes on the BBC iPlayer and Netflix has ‘Our Planet’ or ‘Cowspiracy.’

4) Clean and recycle waste products. Just because your yoghurt pot is dirty, don’t pop it into your normal household waste. Rinse it and recycle it. Recycling centres often reject unclean items so a quick rinse makes a difference.

5) Plan a holiday involving rail or sea. Try and swap your next jet-set trip for one using the rail, or even using a ferry or ship. Planes are the ultimate polluters and taking time to find alternative ways to travel is really important. For me, Eurostar is the key for trips to Europe.

6) When keeping fit, avoid cars. So many people drive somewhere to go for a walk or cycle. Rather than driving to the gym or taking your pet in your car to a park, find a closer alternative. Try home workouts or walking to the gym. Go for a run around your block. It sounds silly but so many car miles are taken up getting to a leisure venue in preparation for fitness activities.

Sorry if I am sounding as though I am saying obvious things but we have to do as much as we can to make changes. Let’s face it, our governments are nodding their heads but facilitating very little actual change. If you want more thoughts about climate change, check out this blog post.

Don’t Fade Away!

As Greta Thunberg once said,

‘Blah, blah, blah.’

We’ve made slight progress,

But still not come far.

COP26 was just a photo op

For leaders who didn’t bother to stay

And make decisions, implement real change.

They’d rather just fly right away.

Instead they made a token gesture,

And showed their faces and smiled and waved,

But the reality is we haven’t got very far,

The rainforest didn’t quite get saved.

Carbon neutral a long way off,

Targets that feel like bluff,

Many not involved at all,

When will enough be enough?
