Booktube – My Youtube Book Review

Many of you will know that I love talking about books and TV shows. I probably spend more time than I should curled up with a novel or short story, often instead of doing something less satisfying, such as hoovering or dusting.

Anyway, last week I decided to reopen my little Youtube channel, which I started last year. I had put it to bed since August and deleted all of the videos because of a crisis of confidence. I suddenly felt self-conscious and awkward about sharing my thoughts on video.

At the same time, I began concentrating on writing my blog instead. However, I missed making videos. The trouble is that editing videos with graphics and sounds takes ages.

My solution is to have another go, but this time without spending hours editing pieces of film. This time it will just be me sitting at my table, reviewing stuff. When I say stuff, I mean books, TV shows and films.

My first booktube review is for this short but brilliant book.

Here is my second attempt. My first booktube video review for 2022, follows on from last week’s movie one:

Thank you for checking out my blog, and possibly my video. I appreciate the support as I tiptoe back into making video reviews. Please subscribe to my channel for more of the same.

Back To YouTube

This is just a quick post to say that after having six months off of YouTube I have started again. Last year I spent ages editing and playing around with bits of video to review books and TV shows, but then I lost my nerve. I felt a bit self-conscious and made the drastic decision to delete all of my content.

Despite such supportive comments on my videos and only the occasional bot heckle, I felt as though I was making a fool of myself by sitting at a desk and sharing my thoughts on things. The blog took over and I put all of my energy into that.

Nevertheless, after a while I missed interacting with the Booktube community and began to think about making videos again, but without having to spend hours editing and adding silly graphics. I also came to the opinion that a YouTube site would bolster my blog and the two things may complement each other. So, here we are. I am having another go.

This time I am keeping the videos short and all in one camera shot. My intention is to do mini-reviews and talk about things that matter to me without getting carried away with filters and picture cards.

There you have it. Nothing fancy or complicated. My blog is still my number one priority but, as you know, I love to mix it up a bit and I hope from time to time you will consider looking at one of my video reviews too. If you prefer a written review then here is my recent post discussing West Side Story.

Booktube Again

After two months off, I am back on Youtube talking about all things book. I love books so much that I have decided to do some of the Booktube Tags which ask questions about reading habits.

It is nerve-racking making a Youtube video but I definitely find it fun too. Trying to build an audience is tricky as it is with any social media but getting to read comments underneath and chat about wonderful books is so rewarding.

My blog is my main priority at the moment but engaging with readers and writers on Booktube is an added bonus. Many have already spotted who are my favourite authors as I do come back to them regularly. However, I regularly talk about newer authors and different genres that are outside of my comfort zone.
